Baby & Kids Market launches in Hobart

A few weeks ago we hosted our inaugural Baby & Kids Market in Hobart. What can I say but WOW – what a fantastic response we received. The local media embraced us with open arms which helped us immensely. The Aurora Stadium was a fabulous venue – one that had to be found rather quickly after City Hall was taken over as a swine flu clinic – a minor hiccup! It was great to see so many people turn up to grab a bargain and see what a wonderful event the Baby & Kids Market is. The kids loved the face painting, jumping castle and activities. One stallholder was thrilled to have sold every single item on her stall! And the large items area was just about sold out by the end of the market.
We are very much looking forward to our next market in City Hall (bar another pandemic!) on Sunday 27 September. There are some different new goods stalls to enjoy and great coffee available. Looking forward to seeing you there! Have a great week, greeting from Robyn Chew, Market Manager Hobart.

Stallholder profile - Perth

This is Sharon, who had a stall recently at one of our Baby & Kids Markets in Perth. Sharon is in her 40's and has two kids (1 and 6) and has been a stallholder before. She's had great success in the past as a stallholder and made about $800 this time. Her best sellers were the Baby Walker and toys. Sharon really enjoys the buzz and atmosphere and meeting other mums (both shoppers and other stallholders). She credits Amanda and Ralf (our WA Team) for a job well done and always being so organised. Sharon's top selling tips are: 1) be organized (i.e. have your products labelled and maybe grouped such as a basket of socks or singlets) and b) price it low. You're there to sell, not to take it home. Thank you Sharon for sharing your experience with us. Have a great weekend everyone. "Google It"

Google seems to be the answer to everything for my almost 8 year old daughter Mathilda. Whenever I don't have an answer for her ever increasing number of questions about life, she tells me to "google it" and we shall be enlightened! So much so that the other day, she asked me if I believed in God. Clearly not satisfied with my (atheist) answer, she then asked my mum, who gave an equally dissatisfying answer. And then it came out: well, we will just have to “google it” Mathilda said, and we will know whether there is a God or not. So there you go, it's that simply.

Wow, thank you all for coming to our very busy Lane Cove Baby & Kids Market on Sunday. We had such a good time with so many shoppers and stallholders. It's a great location and venue, we love going to St Ignatius College. This week you will find us in Hawthorn (on Thursday for our special evening market, just for boys), then on Saturday in the warm Sunshine Coast and on Sunday in Sydney in Five Dock. If you have ever wondered who these lovely mums are that welcome you at our Baby & Kids Market in Sydney, here's an introduction, from left to right: Vanessa, Sue, Nicole and Jennifer. Sue and Jennifer run the Markets and Vanessa and Nicole make sure the large items stay under control. All four ladies have been with us for a long time now, and I am so grateful for their support, they are excellent at what they do! Thank you ladies!

At our recent Baby & Kids Market in Kellyville we had a chat with a very busy mum of four, Sorel. Her kids are aged 8mths, 12yrs, 13,yrs, 14yrs. She first found out about us when she watched A Current Affair (gotta love that). This was her first time at the Baby & Kids Market and she came to buy a Safety gate and Walker. Well she ended up buying everything BUT that! She bought clothes, toys, and so much more. The Walkers and Safety Gate had already all sold by the time Sorel arrived! She loves the Baby & Kids Market for offering quality goods at good prices, making it a real value for money shopping heaven. And Sorel's tip? Don’t wait till 10.30am to shop, come early. Thanks Sorel for shopping with us!

A trip down memory lane

Six years ago we started the Baby & Kids Market in Melbourne. A lot has happened since ... 2 more kids came along, kindergarten finished, school started, house bought and renovated (and still going), and the Baby & Kids Market has grown from one Market per year to 120 per year (that also includes our lovely Mathilda’s Markets)! Hard to believe - but true.
The funny thing is that before we had kids, my husband and I thought we were SO busy! When in fact, we had all the time in the world. Why didn’t we start our businesses then (my husband runs a landscaping business). Instead we started it when we were at our busiest stage in life. I could honestly use another 10 hours each day to finish all the things I have on my list. For example, this weekend we have Baby & Kids Markets in Coburg (Saturday), Croydon and Gold Coast (Sunday) and a very special Market for goods for kids aged 3 yrs to 10 yrs in Five Dock on Sunday. And I have so many things going through my head that I need to finish before Saturday arrives! But we will get there ... luckily I now have a fantastic team to help me, so things are a lot more smooth! Below is a photo of the celebration drinks we enjoyed after the great success of our first Baby & Kids Market in 2003!

Mother's day ... or was it?

The weather man sure did a good job on Mother’s day. Not sure about my husband though ... yes I agree with him that flower prices are ridiculously inflated around Mothers’ day and the whole thing is so commercialised. But still, a small gesture would have been nice (i.e. breakfast in bed, or a sleep in)!
Anyway, luckily I know my husband well, and bought my own Mother’s day present from www.lovestamp.etsy.com and I so so so love it.
Now back to work! We have a HUGE weekend of Baby & Kids Markets coming up: Geelong and Canberra on Saturday and Camberwell, Lane Cove and North Brisbane on Sunday. So, you can get your kids’ quality winter gear at fantastic prices, and not feel ripped off paying FULL RRP! Those days are long gone!

Mathilda's Market in Sydney & Brisbane last Sunday

It was wonderful, just wonderful ... 65 stalls full of gorgeous, handcrafted or limited production baby and kids wares at Mathilda’s Market in Sydney and a somewhat smaller but equally fabulous Mathilda’s Market in Brisbane. I haven’t had time to do a photo collage, so I thought I would share some of the great finds I bought for my daughter Abigail (she’s just over two, so I can’t resist the temptation to buy clothes for her, even though she has plenty from her older sister Mathilda). What a fabulous week

It was marvellous! Last Thursday we held our first evening Baby & Kids Market, especially for preloved baby & kids goods for the ages of 3 to 7 years. It was smaller than our normal Markets, but a great success for all who were involved. Thank you for embracing the concept. Followed by our Baby & Kids Markets in Geelong (VIC), Sunshine Coast (QLD) and Sutherland (NSW) on the weekend, which were also busy with savvy mums seeking out quality bargains.
We held our much anticipated Mathilda's Market in Perth on 8 March and last Sunday in Melbourne. And what a success they were. I have added some photos above ... I dare say it was our best Mathilda's Market yet ... we had a fantastic collection of all things a child could desire, toys, clothes, linen, winter woollies, wall decor, sunglasses, blackboards, backpacks and so much more. The photos focuses a little on the wonderful soft toys that were for sale, which are just so popular at the moment. And for all Sydney and Brisbane mums, you're so lucky, as Mathilda's Market will be held on your City this Sunday. I feel like a kid in a candy store! As I am preparing for this Sunday's Mathilda's Market in Melbourne, I find myself in awe of the divine, beautiful, and simply ingenious baby and kid’s creations that will be on display (and importantly for sale) this Sunday. This is our biggest Mathilda’s Market yet, with almost 70 stalls, so you will be spoilt for choice. We have searched high & low for a whole new range of stallholders, and you won’t be disappointed. We have also made sure that we have a great variety for each category, so you can choose from various toy stalls, clothes stalls, wall decor stalls, etc. All styles, tastes, age groups and genders are catered for. Drop by sometime this Sunday. Don’t forget: Mathilda’s Market will be held at the Hawthorn Town Hall this time! Thank you Megan Rada for letting your gorgeous triplets be part of a photo shoot. The story was about the savings to be made at the Baby & Kids Market and featured in the Gold Coast Bulletin this week. The photo turned out so cute, that I had to upload it on our blog to share with the world. Megan is part of the Gold Coast Multiple Birth Association and we have given them a free stall at our last two Markets at the Gold Coast to increase awareness about their great service.
